PESTILENT: Launching December 2024

Image
I have decided to self-publish PESTILENT: A Zombie Apocalypse Novel . This decision isn’t due to rejections but rather the nature of the submission process. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a rejection of the book, as most of the responses I received were based on query letters and reviews of only a few sample chapters, which likely weren’t read in full due to the sheer volume of submissions. As many literary agencies have stated, if a manuscript doesn’t match what they’re looking for, they won’t proceed. After reviewing their websites, however, I agree that my book didn’t align with the style preferences of about 10 out of the 50 literary agencies I submitted to. As for the rest, I’m still waiting. Some have indicated that it could take months or even years to hear back. I’m not willing to wait that long, considering the financial benefits of traditional publishing. Who knows? Maybe my “castaway homie” hid the submissions that actually matched. JK! Ultimately, I’ve decided to move...

OUTSIDE - A Zombie Film

Image
I was quite impressed with this zombie film when I came across it on Netflix, especially since it's a film from the Philippines featuring my favorite actor, Sid Lucero. I remember he was chosen by Lav Diaz, my favorite Filipino director, to play a psychopathic character in Norte, the End of History , a film based on my hometown in the Philippines. The story is very unique, with some memorable scenes, strong drama, dark humor, and a few disturbing sequences I’ll never forget. And here he is again, the same actor I recognize as an excellent psychopath, delivering an outstanding performance in this zombie apocalypse film, Outside , directed and written by Carlo Ledesma. This filmmaker is now officially one of my favorites as well. The story takes place in a secluded Spanish colonial-era home, a decaying estate in the countryside that was once the childhood home of Francis. As a deadly zombie outbreak spreads, Francis and his family seek refuge inside the house, but tensions quickly ...

PESTILENT: The Synopsis

Image
As of now, I am still searching for traditional publishers—yes, you can have multiple publishers if your book is exceptional. On the other hand, my ambitions extend beyond just publishing; I also envision it being adapted into a movie. As I mentioned before, this process may take weeks to several months, filled with thousands of Query Letter rejections that can cause paranoia. Sometimes, it feels like my castaway homie is spoofing my emails just to mess with my mind while I search for publishers that align with the type of manuscript they’re looking for. In the meantime, I’m taking a break from writing and mostly blogging on Facebook and my blogging websites. The rest of my time is spent working out at the gym, enjoying foodies, and returning to my humble music studio to remake some of my older self-published musical albums, as well as create new material. Perhaps, sign a record label for more music streams. You can visit my SoundCloud to listen to my tracks. Synopsis: The story begi...

Films

People often ask where I get my ideas for writing science fiction books , and I really don't have a clear answer. The most common source is probably the movies I've watched over the years, and there are quite a few of them. Here are 60 of my favorites; there are many more, but the list goes on. "White Zombie" (1932) ,   directed by Victor Halperin, is a classic horror film that tells the story of a young couple, Neil and Madeline, who travel to Haiti for their wedding. There, they encounter a local plantation owner, Murder Legendre, who practices voodoo and has the ability to turn people into zombies. When Madeline falls under Legendre's spell, Neil seeks to rescue her, leading to a chilling confrontation with the dark forces at play. The film explores themes of love, betrayal, and the supernatural, all set against a backdrop of eerie visuals and unsettling atmosphere. "War of the Worlds" (2005) , directed by Steven Spielberg, is a sci-fi thriller based ...
