Train to Busan 2: PENINSULA

Train to Busan 2, also known as Peninsula, is a South Korean zombie apocalypse film and the sequel to the 2016 film Train to Busan. In Peninsula, the story is set four years after the events of the first film. It follows a soldier named Jung-seok, who is sent on a mission to retrieve an enormous sum of money left in the quarantined and zombie-infested city of Incheon. Jung-seok and his team must navigate this dangerous, post-apocalyptic world while contending with not only the undead but also human survivors who have become ruthless in their struggle to survive. The film explores themes of survival, loss, and the dark aspects of human nature in a world overrun by zombies.

Exploring more zombie films, predominantly of Korean origin, I initially assumed a different director, but as the film unfolded, the familiar emotional depth emerged. It is the same filmmaker Yeon Sang-hoIn this desolate city overrun by zombies, corrupt individuals exploit the remnants, with soldiers and a handful of survivors fighting for survival in the Peninsula. The connection to the first movie, which I found more dramatic, is minimal.

This feels more like a standalone film than a true sequel. What stands out in this film are some unique elements not often seen in other zombie movies, even if they carry a typical Korean twist. The action sequences involving Mad Max-style vehicles battling zombies are a thrilling spectacle, and the film still delivers a strong emotional core. Personally, I prefer the first installment, perhaps because of its brighter setting and spookier atmosphere compared to this one, where the groans sound less eerie and more like Tasmanians. Overall, I give it a thumbs up.

Regarding PESTILENT, I've reached Chapter 10 and am progressing steadily through the 28-chapter manuscript. I'm considering sharing the eighth chapter as a sample. Like I mentioned from recent blog, my ultimate aim for this project is to send it through traditional publishing. And I'm prepared with all my guns in case any zombies cross my path.
